ACCORD trains DRC peace building actors

ACCORD held an interactive training course for key peacebuilding actors in the DRC from 25-29 July, 2011 in Lubumbashi. The aim was to enhance understanding on the Presidential elections to be held in November 2011, to enable stakeholders to play a role in preventing and mitigating electoral violence.

The training course, which was organised in collaboration with MONUSCO and funded by the  Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs brought together 29 participants from civil society groups, MONUSCO, various international organisations, government agencies and political parties operating in the Eastern part of the DRC.

The training course is part of ACCORD’s African Peacebuilding Coordination Programme (APCP) which seeks to promote local ownership and enhance coherence and coordination in peacebuilding processes and to foster sustainability through provision of support to the implementation of peacebuilding policy frameworks at national, regional and continental level; capacity building through training; and knowledge generation.

ACCORD continues to strengthen nation-wide preventive and responsive mechanisms to address current and emerging challenges that are encountered the peacebuilding processes; towards the achievement of sustainable peace in Africa.
