Salome is a Senior Researcher in the Knowledge Production Department at ACCORD. She assumed this position in February 2011, after working as KPD Coordinator and previously as Senior Programme Officer when she joined ACCORD in November 2008. In her role as Senior Researcher, Salome identifies and implements practice-oriented research for ACCORD's intervention programmes. In addition, Salome provides technical expertise to strengthen ACCORD's external knowledge management. Her research areas presently include African natural resource conflicts and development, with a particular focus on human security, climate change, land and pastoral conflict, communal conflict, hydro conflicts and climate change adaptation policy as it relates to conflict prevention. She has published scholarly work on elections in South Africa, on mediation in the African Union and on environmental conflict.

Salome was born and raised in South Africa and moved to the UK in 1999. Her undergraduate studies at the Open University, University of London, focused on African development issues, in particular gender and HIV/AIDS, humanitarian disasters and conflict and the environment. She also holds an MSc in Environment & Development studies from the London School of Economics (LSE), again with a focus on African development en environmental issues. Her master's degree thesis focused on HIV/AIDS and domestic workers in South Africa. Salome returned to South Africa in 2008 with the aim of using the skills, experience and education she gained abroad to contribute to the upliftment of Africans everywhere. She lives in Cape Town.
