Venashri Pillay joined ACCORD in June 2005. She is a Senior Researcher in the Knowledge Production Department and the Managing Editor of the organisation's flagship publication, Conflict Trends magazine.

Venashri has a BA (Social Work) degree from the University of Durban-Westville, South Africa and a Masters Degree (Social Work) from Boston College, Massachusetts, U.S.A. She is currently a doctoral candidate in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University, Virginia, U.S.A., and her dissertation research focuses on identity conflict, culture and co-operative society in South Africa.

Prior to joining ACCORD Venashri worked in an NGO in Umlazi, Durban, as a social worker. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1998 and left to the U.S. where she lived, studied and worked for several years before returning to South Africa to join ACCORD. She is currently based in Washington, DC. She has been a lecturer at Georgetown University (Peace and Justice Program), Washington D.C and George Mason University (Global Education Honours Programme), Virginia. She has developed and taught courses on topics of conflict analysis and resolution, culture and cultural fluency, identity conflicts, gender and conflict, and conflict and resolution in South Africa. She has also presented at various conferences and seminars, and has publications on these same topics.

Her recent publication is a co-edited book - Conflict Across Cultures: A Unique Experience of Bridging Differences (2006, Intercultural Press).
