UNMIS CML/AMIS CIMIC course programme

ACCORD’s African Civil Military Coordination Programme (ACMC) will conduct a Civil Military Coordination (CIMIC) course in Khartoum, Sudan, from 20-23 November 2006. This will be an in-mission training course for the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). In order to strengthen the collaboration between the two peacekeeping missions, the training will also include participants from the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS).

The lead facilitator will be Josef Reiterer from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The presentations cover topics such as humanitarian guidelines, gender, DDR, quick impact projects and the situation in Southern Sudan, as they relate to civil-military coordination. Two ACCORD staff members, Sam Siyaya and Yvonne Kasumba, will also be facilitating and assisting in the coordination of the course proceedings in Khartoum.

The Finnish funded ACMC programme focuses on civil-military coordination, which is crucial to achieving the security and humanitarian objectives of modern day peace support operations. These two aspects are nowadays pursued in tandem, thus necessitating that they be well coordinated and that mission personnel have a clear understanding of the complexities of the civil-military interface.
