ACCORD trustees honoured by State President

ACCORD is pleased to announce the recognition received by two of its Trustees by President Thabo Mbeki on 22 April 2008.

H.E. Ambassador Billy Modise, the former South African Ambassador to Canada and the former South African Chief of State Protocol, received the Order of Luthuli

Silver Class – from the President for excellent contribution in the achievement of a South Africa free of racial oppression and for contributing to the building of a non racial, non sexist and democratic South Africa. Ambassador Modise joined ACCORD’s Board of Trustees in January 2007.

Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu, the former Economic Advisor to President Mbeki and a founding ACCORD Trustee received The Award of The Order of the Grand Counsellor of the Baobab: Silver from the President for his contribution to the struggle against apartheid and contributing to the African Renaissance.

The Awards were received as part of President Mbeki bestowing National Orders on men and women for their prominent contribution to nation building, in their respective areas. The National Orders are the highest awards that South Africa bestows on its citizens and foreign nationals who have contributed to, among other areas, the attainment of democracy, building democracy and human rights in South Africa.

Since 1994 men and women from all levels of society have been honoured for their contribution to peace, nation building and human rights, and for achievement of excellence in various fields of endeavour.
