ACCORD partners with UNIFEM and UNAMID to train Darfuri women

ACCORD’s Peacemaking Unit, in partnership with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Sudan and the African Union/United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNIMAD), will conduct Conflict Management, Negotiation and Facilitation Training for Darfuri Women from 5 – 7 October 2010 in Durban, South Africa.

The training participants will also attend a seminar entitled ‘Resolution 1325 in 2010: Looking Forward …Looking Back,’ to be co-hosted by ACCORD and the African Union Peace and Security Commission, from 8 – 9 October 2010 in Durban, South Africa.

The training seeks to enhance the capacity and strategies of women in Darfur to address conflict challenges at both a grassroots and country level during the Doha peace process and subsequent peace processes. The 1325 seminar will inform an Africa-wide strategy for Women in Peace and Security for the next decade (2010 – 2020) that stakeholders across the field can use to update their activities and set their agendas.

Fifteen women from Darfur, as core stakeholder in the Doha peace process and in peace efforts in Sudan, will participate in the training and seminar.
