ACCORD analyses peacebuilding architecture in Burundi and region

With the aim to reflect upon and identify appropriate responses to peacebuilding issues in Burundi and the Great Lakes region, ACCORD organised a 4-day workshop in Bujumbura, Burundi. The peacebuilding workshop, organised by the Burundi Intervention Office and in collaboration with the Peacebuilding Unit, was held from 10-13 July in Bujumbura, Burundi. The workshop brought together stakeholders representing government, civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, as well as representatives from youth groups, media, international and regional organisations, experts in Peacebuilding,  transitional justice and elections and academia.

The workshop was intended to analyse the peacebuilding current status and reflect on potential challenges and opportunities in the country and region with the aim of allowing participants to reflect on most appropriate initiatives towards sustainable peace and development. ,. As such, the workshop served as a platform that allowed peacebuilding stakeholders to assess in detail the peacebuilding architecture and also to link the existing peacebuilding frameworks to practice. The workshop provided an analysis of peacebuilding in Burundi that aims to guide stakeholders in their implementation processes and also better prepare them on the importance of participatory and holistic approaches particularly ahead of the 2015 elections and the setup of the Transitional Justice mechanisms in Burundi.

The workshop fits within ACCORD's aim to strengthen Peacebuilding capacities and processes in the country and region, in adherence to local and national ownership principles.
