on . Posted in Peacebuilding

The Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, attended the second annual general meeting of AfAP, from 20-21 November 2008, in Nairobi, Kenya. AfAP which is a tripartite partnership agreement between ACCORD, the Nairobi Peace Initiative-Africa (NPI-Africa) and the West Africa Network for Peace-building (WANEP). The aim of the partnership is to share experiences and lessons learnt in the field of peacebuilding.

Discussions were held on how to expand the value of the partnership, which will now consist of an annual general meeting preceded by a small seminar style discussion and a larger conference every two years, focusing on a topic identified at the annual general meeting with the aim of contributing to the Continent’s understanding of and influence in the field of peacebuilding. Chairmanship of AfAP will now work on a two year rotational basis, which began at this meeting with the passing of the chairmanship to WANEP. This is a move away from the current one year rotational basis that AfAP had been working on, which saw ACCORD hosting the first annual general meeting in 2007 and NPI-Africa hosting this second annual general meeting. ACCORD will take over the chairmanship of AfAP again from 2011–2012.
