Returning from New York after attending the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Madam Graça Machel the Chairperson of the ACCORD board of Trustees hosted a partner and stakeholder luncheon on 2 October 2015 in Pretoria to reflect on the SDGs and their implications for peace and security in Africa.
On 24th March 2014 ACCORD hosted the launch of Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu's biography, entitled "A Life of Purpose". The book follows Professor Nkuhlu's memorable path from student activist, to Robben Island prisoner at 19, to becoming South Africa's first black chartered accountant and founder of the country's first black African chartered accountant firm. It goes on to detail and contextualise his further journey as influential academic, Chairperson of the NEPAD Steering Committee and Economic Advisor to former President Mbeki.
ACCORD extends it condolences to the Gerwel family on the death of Professor Jakes Gerwel. Professor Jakes Gerwel passed away this morning after undergoing a triple heart by-pass about a week ago. He suffered a stroke on Thursday. Professor Gerwel was one of the five founding Trustees of ACCORD. He will be sadly missed by the Trustees and Staff of ACCORD.
On 02 May 2012 ACCORD hosted an EXCOM and a full Board of Trustees meetings in Gauteng. These were the first meetings for both EXCOM and the Board for 2012. The second meetings for the year for both forums will take place in the last quarter of the year.
On the morning of 16 August 2011, ahead of the closed Board Meeting which took place in the afternoon, ACCORD hosted a discussion forum where the Trustees of ACCORD were briefed on the current environment on the Continent by presenters that included H.E. Ambassador Riaz (Moe) Shaik, (Director-General: Foreign Branch, Department of State Security) on the topic "Current and Future Challenges in Africa"; H.E. Ambassador Welile Nhlapo (National Security Advisor to President Zuma and Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region) focusing on the topic "Current Political Dynamics" and Dr. Lumkile Mondi (Chief Economist, IDC) focusing on the topic "Investment in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities".
On 09 September 2009 ACCORD held its sixth Trustee EXCOM Meeting at ACCORD House. This was the second meeting for 2009. The next EXCOM meeting will be held in April 2010.
On 14 February 2015 ACCORD Trustee H.E. Ambassador Billy Modise, was one of the recipients of the Ubuntu Lifetime Achiever Award, presented at the inaugural Ubuntu Awards ceremony hosted by the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in Cape Town, South Africa.
ACCORD Trustee, Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu, has been appointed as a Trustee of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation for a three year period starting on 1 January 2013.
ACCORD Trustee, H.E. Ambassador Billy Modise, has been awarded the Great Cross of the Order of Bernadro O'Higgins by the Government of Republic of Chile. The presentation will be made by the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile, H.E. Ambassador Franciso Marambio, at a reception to be hosted in Pretoria, South Africa, this evening. The Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, will be attending the ceremony.
On 27 November 2009 ACCORD hosted its second Board of Trustees Meeting for 2009 at the Melrose Arch hotel in Gauteng. A Special EXCOM Meeting was held just prior to the Board meeting.
On 19 June 2009 ACCORD hosted its first Board of Trustees Meeting for 2009, which was held at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton, Gauteng. The second Board meeting will be held in November 2009.
