ACCORD’s Training for Peace (TfP) Senior Programme Officer, Ms Yvonne Kasumba, will participate in the 12th Annual Conference of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC) from 16-20 October 2006 in Santiago, Chile. The conference is hosted by the Chilean Joint Centre for Peacekeeping (CECOPAC), and the main theme for this year is “The Integrated Missions Approach: Implications for Education and Training.”

 The conference will explore new concepts and ideas on current strategic issues, regional perspectives on training and an ‘ideas bazaar’ will also be held to promote discussions on current issues related to education and training for peacekeeping. Themed multifunctional group discussions will also be held focusing on the following topics:

  • Education and training in support of the integrated mission concept;
  • Education and training in support of better integration of security and humanitarian functions; and
  • Education and training in support of the development of a true culture of cooperation and coordination in peace operations

The Training for Peace programme has been significantly involved in the training initiatives focused on African and UN peacekeeping issues, and will use the opportunity to share experiences and lessons learnt from its own programme and gain in experiences from the other participating institutions at the IAPTC conference.
